Well it is February now; time to take our loved ones out for the great Valentine’s Day treat and to start thinking about fly tying and FLY FISHING! The heck with the treat let us get to the important part! February fishing can be excellent. There are many great pieces of water that are fishing well this time of year. Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout and the Lower Sacramento River are just a couple of pieces of water that we guide on and that are fishing very well right now. You might even take a shot at Baum and Lewiston Reservoir. With this mild winter in the high country, bugs are hatching and fish are feeding.
The Lower Sacramento River.....
The Lower Sacramento River is still fishing very well despite the continuing low water conditions. The sucker spawn is about ready to take place and then the caddis will start appearing in March. This is a great time to be on the river. Cool mornings with warm afternoons. Space for March and April are filling up quickly, so if you are looking for a great day on the river do not delay, Book NOW!

Private Water.....
Stillwater Fly Fishing Adventures not only has great private water fisheries in the spring, summer and fall, but also in the winter. Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout and Luk Lake are great winter fisheries. These private venues offer anglers huge trophy trout opportunities that are out of site. So if you are looking for a little tug, then book soon. As far as the other private water venues, dates are already filling up and space is limited.

Bailey Creek Lodge and Luk Lake Workshops.....
OK, here is what you all have been waiting for! The Fly Shop, Lance Gray and Company and Stillwater Fly Fishing Adventures have teamed up to offer you two different school venues. They are Bailey Creek Lodge (June 8-10, 2012) and Luk Lake (March 18-19, 2012). Below is all the information. Booking can be made through The Fly Shop.
Bailey Creek Lodge.....

2 Day Trout School at Bailey Creek Lodge with Lance and Lincoln Gray Lance and Lincoln Gray have been fly fishing the lakes and streams of Northern California for over 30 years, and they’re excited to share some of their expertise this summer at our 2 Day Trout School at Bailey Creek Lodge. Access to the trophy trout lake overlooking the scenic Manton Valley makes Bailey Creek Lodge the perfect facility for this clinic. Idyllic Bailey Creek meandering just past the back porch of the lodge is good for fine tuning moving water techniques as well.
2 Day Trout School Dates: June 8-10, 2012
The Trout School is a 3 day, 2 night school, beginning with a 3:00 pm arrival on Friday and concluding with lunch on Sunday. The program is a combination of freestone stream and stillwater instruction, designed for novice to intermediate anglers. Each student will learn proper casting techniques, and instruction on rods, reels, fly lines, knots, leaders, flies, wading and pontoon boat/ float tubes. Students will also rig rods for each fishing situation and will be able to determine what setup will be needed during the school.
The stillwater segment focuses on the use of both floating and intermediate line techniques. We will also cover lake profiling, positioning watercraft to make the cast, and various retrieves and the countdown method for sinking lines. Our attention for Freestone streams will be wading into position to cast, wading safety, rod setups , casting applications (including roll cast and presentation casts), and creating a perfect dead drift. Opportunities will abound to practice hooking, fighting, landing, and releasing fish!
After attending the course the student will be able to fish on their own in a safe, confident and productive manner.
Cost:
$825 per person (double occupancy);
$1,050 per person (single occupancy)

Luk Lake.....

2 Day Stillwater Clinic at Luk Lake with Lance and Lincoln Gray
It was a simple, logical decision to combine the phenomenal winter and spring fishing at our easily-accessed Luk Lake in Corning with the decades of experience of local talent Lance and Lincoln Gray, along with The Fly Shop’s experienced guide staff. The end result is our 2 Day Stillwater Clinic at Luk Lake scheduled for the spring time. Fishing on the lake can be fantastic, for both trophy-sized rainbow trout and a host of aggressive bass that call the lake their home.
2 Day Stillwater Clinic Dates: March 17-18, 2012
Luk Lake is a 65+ acre lake conveniently located just minutes from Interstate 5 in Corning, California, behind the Rolling Hills Casino. The lake is loaded with
bass, sunfish and stocked with monster rainbows, providing an excellent setting for a Stillwater school.
The Stillwater Clinic at Luk Lake is conducted by seasoned guides who are able to cater every aspect of the class to anglers of all skill levels. Guests at the Stillwater Clinic will learn not only the basic skills important in successful fly fishing in lakes, but also more advanced techniques including casting instruction, reading structure (the water) in lakes, sinking line methods
(countdown techniques), boat positions, proper set ups and fly selection. While the focus of this school is on fly fishing for trout in lakes and Stillwaters, Luk Lake also has a healthy population of largemouth bass and sunfish, so techniques for targeting these warm water species can also be covered. Many of our Luk Lake angling guests land some hard-fighting bass while fishing for the lake’s trophy rainbows.
Lunch will be provided each day during the class, and the nearby Rolling Hills Casino provides some great options for lodging and meals.
Cost:
$600 per person
